- Unit 2 Practice Test - As we have moved to a new math curriculum, I have noticed that our students need extra practice with some of the concepts. Our old math curriculum contained a review test at the end of every unit. This new curriculum does not have one. I have therefore taken problems that they have already seen throughout the unit and from the most important concepts to create a practice test. This test will help them to know what they are still struggling with. I have told them that it would be good to try it at home and then they will know what concepts they need me to help them with, before the test on Friday. This practice test is strictly optional at home. Students were given time on Friday to work on it and a few have finished already. They will also have time on Monday and Tuesday to work on it in class. I have told the students that if we can have everyone complete it on Wednesday, that we will have a little educational party on Friday after they take the Unit 2 test where they will be able to bring any snacks that they want to eat that day.
- Safety Patrol - Our class is in charge of Safety Patrol next week (Oct 14 - Oct 19).

We have had some incidents with students bringing toys from home to school and arguing over who they belong to. These incidents are causing major disruptions and hurt feelings in our classroom. I am no longer allowing any toys in our classroom. If I see them, I will confiscate them until parents come in to claim them. Students with accommodations are welcome to use their quiet fidget toys, such as thinking putty, when needed. They are to keep these objects to themselves. Thank you for your help with this issue.

Safety Patrol - Our first day of Safety Patrol was a success. Thank you to all of the students and parents for your support!
Math - We took our first Mid Unit assessment on Friday. The scoring is off in the program, so I won't be able to send the tests home for a few days. Students will have a chance to retake 3 of the most missed questions on the test. I always take the highest score.
RAZ Kids - Our RAZ Kids subscription will begin in October. That will be when students are required to read and answer questions about 4 books per week.

It has been a wonderful first week of school. I am excited to work with such a fun group of students. We have deep-thinking mathematicians already!
Many of the students have already been complaining about the late lunch schedule. The best way to help your student with this, is to make sure that they are bringing a snack each day. We have recess at 10:30 and they are welcome to take a snack outside with them. It really helps students to remain focused when they are not hungry.
